What is an IFSC code?

IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) is an 11-character code assigned by the RBI to identify every bank branch in India. It is used for NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS transfers.

You can find it on your cheque book, passbook, or bank statement. You can also find it on this website by searching your bank name.

Can I use IFSC for international transfers?

No. IFSC is only for domestic transfers within India. Use SWIFT/BIC codes for international transfers.

What if I enter the wrong IFSC during a transfer?

If invalid, the transaction will fail automatically. If valid but pointing to the wrong branch, funds could be misrouted. Always verify before confirming.

NEFT processes transfers in batches. RTGS settles large transfers instantly. IMPS is available 24/7 for immediate transfers. All three require an IFSC code.
